"The Summer Book" by Tove Jansson is a remarkable story. As one of its admirers, I wanted to reflect on its themes by designing a cover that captures its essence through compelling typography and imagery. The wavy type, spanning from the front cover to the back, is custom-designed with the ocean and waves in mind. This choice reflects the book's setting, as the story revolves around the lives of its characters on an isolated island surrounded by water. The split created by the waves in the design symbolizes the emotional distance between the two protagonists as they struggle to connect. Through this cover, I aimed to visually represent the nuanced relationship at the heart of the narrative.
